The team of Griffin Structures and Swinerton Builders, along with LPA Architects, is serving as the development team for the new Police Service Headquarters in the City of Salinas. The facility is being delivered utilizing a Public-Private Partnership (P3) which provides for the design, financing, construction and delivery of the new $40 million facility.
The new 69,000 square foot facility will replace the City’s existing police department headquarters, built in 1958, and will accommodate anticipated future growth. The project will encompass two buildings on a 6.3-acre site. The two-story 44,300-square-foot headquarters building will serve as the essential services administrative building and will include detention spaces, a community room and community plaza. A 25,000-square-foot support building will provide police support services, including evidence intake and storage, crime lab spaces, and an indoor firing range.
Planning and development for the facility included a comprehensive community outreach component to engage residents and businesses to discuss issues, concerns and ideas. The Police Service Headquarters fulfills space needs identified in the City’s 2014 needs assessment study for the Police Department. The facility will be located on East Alisal Street, initiating the City Council’s strategy to revitalize the Alisal Market Place area. The Police Service Headquarters is scheduled to be completed in first quarter 2020.
The integrated P3 delivery method results in cost-effective, time-efficient facilities.
